How To Replace Mercedes-Benz W205 Windshield Wiper Blades (C300 & C43 AMG)

Windshield wipers have come a long way since their original inception. Once hand-crank-operated blades over a hundred years ago are now automatically activated by sensors in the windshield when they detect raindrops. These rain-sensing wipers, as you'll find on the Mercedes-Benz W205, are designed to make your life easier and safer while driving in tricky conditions. However, as smart as these wiper systems are, you still need to ensure that the wiper blades are in good condition. The wipers become nearly useless when the blades are worn, eliminating any benefits from the rain-sensing capabilities of your Mercedes. 

The blades that Mercedes uses on the W205 have a wear indicator on them. When the indicator turns yellow, the blade needs to be replaced. Swapping out the blades is a simple process in theory, but it can be tricky to figure out up close. To avoid any hassle, follow the steps below to replace your blades correctly.

The best parts for the replacement are genuine Mercedes-Benz parts. They use the wear indicator that makes it simple to understand when they should be replaced. The pair of blades will run you about $95. Put aside another $25 to purchase the glass-cleaning clay and the Sonax glass cleaner.

Replacing the blades is very simple. It should take you no more than five minutes to replace the blades. Add another five to ten minutes to thoroughly clean the windshield.

Steps required to replace Mercedes-Benz W205 wiper blades:

Step 1: Replace the blades

The blades on the W205 are tucked beneath the hood when they're not in use. Grab one of the blades and pull them out from under the hood, about a quarter of the way up the windshield. 

The blades are now in the service position, and you can lift them to replace the blades. At the end of the wiper arm, where it is attached to the blade, squeeze the two tabs. Then, pull the blade away from the arm to remove it. 

Throw away the old blades and pop on the new ones. All you need to do is slide the new blade onto the arm; it'll lock itself into place. Give the blade a light tug to ensure it's seated, and then put the arm back onto the windshield. After replacing both blades, move the arms back down under the hood. 

Step 2: Clean the windshield

This step is optional, though we do recommend it. Use your favorite glass cleaning product to remove as much dirt and contamination from the windshield's surface as you can. Using a microfiber towel to wipe the cleaning product off will ensure a smooth finish.

However, if you want to go a step further, you can use Griot's glass-cleaning clay bar. Simply spray the windshield with some glass cleaner and wipe the glass with the clay. You should hear an almost sandpaper-like noise as the clay picks up the tiny bits of contaminant out of the glass. 

Once the windshield feels smooth, wipe the glass cleaner off with a microfiber towel and move on to another section. Be sure to flip the clay over and use the non-contaminated side, however.
