How to Replace a Seat Memory Switch in an E-Class (W211/W219)
One of the biggest nuisances associated with getting in a W211 or 219 are sticky, inoperable switches. The most common sticky switches are for the seat memory and Airmatic. Today we will be replacing the seat memory switch on a Mercedes E63. This is a relatively simple procedure that should take ½ hour to complete.
Tools Required
- T30 torx, T20 Torx
- 8mm socket
- Plastic door trim panel removal tool
Start by winding the door window all the way down.
Remove the tweeter panel on the door.
Grabbing the tweeter at the forward edge and pulling it will release it.
There are 2 cosmetic covers for the 3 panel mounting screws. One cover is located below the door pull and one at the forward edge of the door.
Apply light pressure using the panel removal tool to remove the covers and remove the retaining screws.
Remove the security cover around the door latch.
Prying around the perimeter of the door panel will release it from the door frame. The door cable and the 5 electrical connectors in the door control module need to be detached and then the panel can be moved to a workbench.
The seat switch is held in place by five nuts and you will need to detach a single electrical connector.
Lift the existing switch out of its seat in the door panel (FIGUREA4) and then install the new switch.
While the panel is off, take that opportunity to clean the panels leather surfaces before reinstallation. No additional initialization is needed after the switch is installed.
