Trial, error. Trial, error. Trial, SUCCESS!
In the latest episode of Dapper Drift, our developer, Denis Ivanov, links Summer Jam at Sonoma Raceway in California. If you don't know what that means, or why you should care, allow me to explain:
Drifting is, in essence, the ability to control a vehicle while it's out of control—rear tires screeching, pouring smoke, exhaust wailing, etc. Now, some people can do a donut, and that's fine. But the art of drifting is basically extending that donut into separate turns, coming into them, out of them, linking them, all while keeping the rear end of the vehicle loose.
So, when successful, someone who's drifting can "link" turns together, which is essentially combining a drift from one corner into another. And though that sounds easy, it's really not, as Denis proves here in episode 8. You need to balance speed, angle of entry, throttle application, all while judging the surface and where you're at on the track.
But, against all odds, Denis did it. The result is one of the sweetest runs we've seen the 2003 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG do at Sonoma. So, what's next for Denis? A cross-country road trip that ended in shambles. Tragedy. Sadness. And, a visit to FCP Euro headquarters in Milford, CT.
