May 15th marks the first race in FCP Euro Motorsport's IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This season, FCP Euro Motorsports has made the jump from TCR to GT4 with their recently purchased Mercedes-AMG GT4s. As with years past and as a continuation of their motorsports philosophy, the FCP Euro Motorsports IMSA campaign will be staffed by core FCP Euro employees and seasoned veterans alike.
The #11 AMG GT4 will be piloted by Nate Vincent, FCP Euro Director of Motorsports and Team Principal, and Michael Hurczyn, FCP Euro Brand Director. Rounding out the rest of the team, Nathan Brown, FCP Euro Event Director serves as Team Manager, Gareth Foley, BMW Catalog Manager as Fuel Chief, Cory Calvin, Motorsports Technician as Car Chief, and Chris Gargiulo, Reverse Logistics Supervisor as Car Technician.
If you're not familiar with FCP Euro's history in motorsports, they have progressed from racing the #720 Mercedes-Benz C300 built in-house in American Endurance Racing to the #71 and #72 Volkswagen GTI TCRs in SRO's TC America all in the last five years. This Saturday marks the next tier of progression in the history of their motorsports program with their first ever race in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.
IMSA, short for International Motor Sport Association, is the highest level of professional sports car racing in North America. Countless notable drivers throughout the history of sports car racing have participated in IMSA in various series. IMSA's Michelin Pilot Challenge field is split into two classes, GT4 and TCR.
If you have been following the FCP Euro Motorsports program over the last few years, you will be familiar with TCR. These are essentially the same cars FCP Euro Motorsports raced in SRO TC America from 2018 to 2020. Some familiar faces will be in the field, such as Maxson, Gonzalez, and Filippi that they competed against, in the 2019 TC America season. In the GT4 field, FCP Euro will be racing with the likes of Kumo Wittmer and Bill Auberlen, who holds the most wins in IMSA history.
