Sometime in 2013, Volvo introduced a new center cap for their alloy wheels. There haven't been many styles released since 1993, so for those who manage a collection of OE Volvo wheels for their ride - this is big. I have always enjoyed the interchangeability of Volvo's center caps, as they allow the owner to brighten up older wheels (like perfos) with a fresh cap that makes them look 5 years newer. Here's what we've seen thus far in 2015.
Incarnation: Volvo 850
Since 1993, this bone-standard center cap has graced the likes of the Volvo 850R, 1998 V70R, and even the 2004 S60R sports sedan. While it looks "right," there's no denying that it had its place in the 90s. This is a thin plastic cap with no metal wire providing tension on the inside diameter.

Back to blue
In the mid-2000s, a new style of gray "Iron Mark" center caps filtered into showrooms and onto dozens of 850 and S70 models via enthusiasts that wanted a cheap but classy wheel upgrade. These are a heavier, 3D center cap with raised lettering underneath a clear solid dome. A metal wire is used on the inside diameter to keep the caps held firmly in the wheel.

P3 Wheels
The P3 generation (2011-) of Volvo S60 not only brought a vastly more reliable platform to Volvo's most mainstream and popular vehicle, but also brought Volvo back to its sporting roots of yore. The S60 R-Design is the closest Volvo has come to the legendary S60R, so it was fitting that these black "Iron Mark" center caps were quietly introduced on this model. Looking great on the Ixion style wheel, these blend in nicely with the darker finish that Volvo has seldom used on previous wheel designs. There are no structural changes to these caps compared to the gray "Iron Mark" caps that preceded them, just color.
