Waterfest 2018 was more like underWaterfest 2018 due to all the rain that fell over the weekend but regardless, we had a great time, and so did everyone in attendance. Here's what the show looked like from our lens(es).
Waterfest is the biggest Volkswagen and Audi show in North America. For the 24th running, Waterfest was held for two days (Saturday through Sunday) this past weekend at Atco Dragway in Atco, NJ.
Besides just the car show, which was comprised of over 200 Volkswagens and Audis spanning nearly every model and year, there was a burnout competition, a drag race, a dyno, an autocross course, a bunch of good food and of course, thousands of passionate Audi/VW enthusiasts to share the space with.
This year, FCP Euro was in attendance giving out free hats, sunglasses, bags, stickers, and to show off our two project cars, a MK7 GTI and an MK5 GTI.
We did something a little special this year with the MK5—since the car is so rusty, and has already had the delicate mechanical treatment of the Humble Mechanic, we had everyone at the show sign their Instagram handles on the car with black permanent marker as a form of entering to win $100 credit to our site. It generated a ton of laughs and we loved seeing the car go from completely white to completely covered in signatures—and we're not taking them off anytime soon.
The coolest part of the event was how people showed up despite the inclement weather. We loved seeing the mix of classic Volkswagens, Audis, and some of the newer, more flashy rides peppered across the blacktop.
