Keeping up with common maintenance items is crucial to keeping your Volvo running in perfect order and is generally a simple task in terms of installation. By doing the maintenance yourself you'll save time, money, and you'll know the job was done right.
Here's how:
Tools you’ll need:
- 5/8” spark plug socket
- Sockets, ratchet
- Torx bit set
- Torque wrench
- About 30-60 min of free time

New Ignition Coil Kit
Let's Get to Work:
- Raise the hood and remove the air pipe above the engine by removing the two R-25 torx screws and loosen the 2 7mm hose clamps.
- Next, remove the engine covers by removing the 8 Torx screws, pushing back on the side clips to remove the timing belt cover first then lifting off the spark plug area cover
- Now, remove 5 bolts holding down the ignition coils:
- Detach the connectors from the ignition coils
- Remove the ignition coils
- Remove all 5 spark plugs using a ⅝” spark plug socket
- Examine the old plugs to see if there’s anything beyond just worn out electrodes. For example, there could be a bigger issue if one has an oily or cracked insulator. Worn normal plugs should just appear uniform across the set.
- Installation is the reverse of removal. New spark plugs should be torqued to 22 ft-lb.
When everything is back together start the car to ensure it runs smooth and enjoy renewed engine performance!
