If your MK7 VW GTI or Audi is beginning to feel a bit sloppy in the corners or is making unusual clunking noises, there's a good chance that your ball joints need replacing. Luckily, Volkswagen made it easy with simple-to-replace ball joints.

Unlike many cars with ball joints that are integrated into the control arm, the ball joint on the MK7 Volkswagens and Audis are separate and fairly simple to replace. They attach via three bolts that are easily accessible.

MK7 VW GTI & Audi Ball Joint Kit Replacement Symptoms

When your ball joints need replacing, you usually notice it as the symptoms are fairly apparent. When you do start noticing these symptoms, they shouldn't be ignored as your ball joints are one of the main suspension components, and if they completely fail, can have catastrophic results.

  • Steering Wheel Wander
  • Unusual/Excessive Front End Vibrations
  • Uneven Tire Wear
  • Clunking from Front Suspension

There isn't an exact mileage that ball joints tend to fail at. This depends on your driving style, the exact model of car, and the quality of the roads that you drive on daily.

The job overall is extremely easy to do yourself. Even the diagnosis is simple as you can just jack up your car, remove a wheel, and check for tears in the ball joint boot. As well as that, you can use a pry bar to check for play in the ball joint itself.
