BMW X3 & X4 Rear Wheel Bearing Kit (F25 & F26) - Fitment, Failure Symptoms, And Review
A failing wheel bearing is one of the most difficult failures to diagnose. The symptoms can range from minor annoyances to major problems that mask themselves as a multitude of other suspension issues. When it comes to the F25 X3 and F26 X4, BMW made these rear wheels bearings easy to replace.
BMW F25 X3 and F26 X4 Rear Wheel Bearing Kit Replacement Symptoms
When your wheel bearings begin to fail, it starts off as just a minor annoyance most times. Noises under certain conditions that come and go like the seasons. As the damage progresses, though, it can result in actual noticeable movement of the wheels. When it gets to this point, it becomes a safety hazard and they should be replaced immediately.
While it isn't completely necessary to replace the wheel hub when replacing the wheel bearing, it doesn't make sense not to. Over time these wheel bearings corrode and the threads can become damaged from repeated wheel installation. Since these hubs are press fit into your new bearings, you should replace these hubs while you're completing the job.
The symptoms of failing wheel bearings on your F25 X3 and F26 X4 are:
- Unusual noises (clunking, whooshing, whirring, grinding, or growling)
- Steering wobble or vibrations
- Pulling to one side while braking
These rear wheel bearings and hubs should last to around the 100,000-mile mark before you start to experience symptoms. However, it's been reported that wheel bearing replacement needs to be done around the 50,000-mile mark. This will all depend on where you live and how you drive your car.
If you bring your F25 X3 or F26 X4 to the dealer or shop to have your rear wheel bearings replaced, it could run upward of $600 for labor and parts. By doing the job yourself, it will only cost you a small fraction of that. Plus, when your rear wheel bearings inevitably fail again, you can replace them for free using our Lifetime Replacement Guarantee.
