BMW E46, M3, E9X, X-Series & More Leak Detection Pump - Symptoms, Benefits, and Product Review
You might never have heard of a leak detection pump before, but it's a necessary component in your emissions system. An inoperable leak detection pump will cause a fault code resulting in a check engine light and ultimately will cause you to fail inspection/emissions testing.
A leak detection pump probably isn't the first maintenance item that pops up in your mind, yet it's a pretty common failure item. This specific leak detection pump fits a wide range of BMW's from a 128i to M3 to 760Li. There are a few different failure methods with this pump, most notably a stuck solenoid or it becomes filled with dirt and debris.
When your leak detection pump fails, you will usually receive a P2402 fault code. If your state requires emissions testing or inspections, this code will cause you to fail as it's a significant part of your car's emissions system.
In the video below, Gareth educates us on the function of the BMW leak detection pump, the reason they fail, and the other potential culprits of the P2402 fault code. If you like this Really Quick Product Review, subscribe and check back here for regular releases in the future.
