The timing system on Audis, Volkswagens, and Porsches require special tools to work on them. We've assembled a kit with all of the tools you will need, whether you're replacing your timing chain or timing chain tensioner.

Audi, VW, & Porsche timing chain replacement symptoms

It's extremely common for Volkswagens and Audis to experience timing chain stretch and timing chain tensioner failure. If you ignore the symptoms, it can easily cause your engine to skip timing. If this happens, your pistons will make contact with your valves, which can cause irreparable damage.

  • Fault Code: P0116 Cam/Crank Correlation
  • Extended Crank
  • Crank but No Start

When should I replace my Audi/VW timing chain and tensioner?

There isn't a specific mileage in which you start to notice symptoms of needing to replace your timing chain. Once you start to experience symptoms, we recommend inspecting and measuring your timing chain for stretch. If you're completing this job yourself, you can expect it to take between 8 and 10 hours.

How does it cost to replace your Audi/VW timing chain and tensioner?

If you go to a dealer, you can expect the cost to replace your timing chain and tensioner to be between $3300 and $4000. By doing it yourself, you're only paying for the parts, which are a fraction of the overall cost. Another added benefit is that the parts come with our Lifetime Replacement Guarantee. When your tensioner fails, or your timing chain stretches again, you can replace them for free.

Additional tools recommended with Audi, VW, & Porsche timing tool kit

If you suspect that it's time to replace your timing chain, we recommend performing a compression and leak down test. There's a chance that if you had a failure, your valves could have made contact with your pistons.
