Audi B8 2.0 (A4, A5, Q5 & More) Timing Chain Kit - Symptoms And Product Review
The Audi B8 and B8.5 with the CAEB engine code have a common failure with the original style timing chain tensioner. If and when that fails, it is common for it to cause your car to skip timing which could cause significant damage.

Audi B8 2.0 Timing Chain Kit Replacement Symptoms
Timing chain failure happens on the Audi B8s due to the original style tensioner. This tensioner had a critical design flaw which allowed the tensioner to max out and stretch the chain. If and when this happens, it's common for it to result in bent valves which would require cylinder head repair. Some of the symptoms of a failed timing chain tensioner are:
- Rough Running at Idle or Load
- Extended Crank before Starting
- Unusual Noise from Timing Chain Cover
- Fault Code P0016
- This is a Cam/Crank Correlation fault. This simply means that your vehicle is not in time and you have a serious issue.
There isn't an exact mileage or time frame that this issue occurs. For some owners, this will never occur. We recommend just keeping an eye on it and replacing only when you begin to experience symptoms.
If you have to do this job, it is on the more difficult side of DIY jobs. You can expect the job to take around eight hours give-or-take depending on your skill level.
