Saab Steering Pump Parts
Saab has been in the auto market for over 50 years out of their headquarters in Scandinavia. There they have been continually focusing the brand on their dedication to advanced engineering and design. Saab remains one of the most prized brands, manufacturing some of some of the highest quality products and vehicles and it shows in their steering pump parts and components. The power steering pump on your Saab helps you steer easily. This becomes an important safety concern when you think about how a faulty pump will keep you from properly managing your Saab in the middle of your busy commute. Luckily, replacing the pump is a fairly simple task. The first thing you need to do is take out as much fluid from the steering pump reservoir as you can to avoid spilling the oil around the engine after disconnecting the hoses. Use a hand siphon pump and then put a drain pan below your vehicle, in the direction of the pump, to catch the leftover oil once you take out the pump. The bracket for the engine oil filler pipe on Saab 9000 models are positioned near to the steering pump. Unscrew the pipe bracket-mounting bolt and put it out of the way. Once you take the drive belt out, you will have the space you need around the pump. You will notice that some of the pump’s mounting bolts are positioned below the pump. To get to them, lift your Saab and take out the tire and the inner fender panel from the front passenger and then reach for one of these bolts through the hole on the pump pulley. When you are ready to detach your Saab’s pump hoses you should use a flare wrench to avoid damaging the retaining nut on the pump and then cover the openings to keep debris and grease from getting into the system. Once you put in the new pump, add the proper amount of steering fluid through the reservoir opening. Look to your Saab’s manual for the recommended level. You can now bleed your system to take out the air. To do this, make sure the fluid in the pump is at the proper level first. Then start the engine and turn the steering wheel numerous times to the left and right. Do not push too hard on the stops at either side or you may harm the system. Check the reservoir level and put more fluid in of needed. Once the fluid remains at the correct level, you have bled the system correctly. With the pump off the vehicle, transfer the pulley from the old steering pump to the new unit.
