BMW has continuously focused their commitment to quality and groundbreaking designs throughout their history, all the while keeping the opposition running with their highly produced vehicles. Their have a renowned reputation that flows into their product line, especially their subframe parts. The subframe on your BMW supports the lot from the engine to the transmission, to the rack and the sway bar. All of the directions should be followed exactly for proper safety in order to replace your BMW’s subframe. First, detach the negative battery cable and lift to support your vehicle on all four corners with the jack stands. Lift the jack stands up as high as they go. Fasten the engine support stand to the fender wells, as well as the chains to the front and rear of your engine. Draw the chains up and put the center of the bar toward the front of the engine to make up for the mass of the transaxle. Take off your BMW’s wheels and detach the cotter pin from the ball joint stud with the wire cutters. Detach the nut and mount the ball joint separator tool in between the spindle and the lower control arm. Smack the tool with the hammer until the ball joint loosens from its tapered hole in the spindle. Now, raise the spindle off of the ball joint stud, letting it hang. If you have questions about BMW’s subframe components, the FCP Euro team is continuously accessible.

Move the lines out of the way and inspect and take away everything attached to the subframe that is in the way of lines or wires. Take away the motor mounts that are joined to the subframe. Use the floor jack to take some of the weight off to get the bolts out. Next, detach the rack and steering bolts. The rack and pinion will remain, but needs to be let go from the subframe. Remove the four large bolts linked through the brackets into the frame. Connect a security chain around the transmission and the crossbar and secure it with a bolt and nut. Take off the subframe with a ½-inch air gun and socket by detaching one bolt at a time, and then thread it back in with seven threads. Go to the next one and repeat for all of the bolts. Have one of your helpers take a side and raise it up on the now lowered subframe. Have another person take off the bolts in the subframe as the other two people hold the frame.
