BMW Control Arm Parts

BMW has always been known to put their priority for high quality and pioneering designs first and foremost, all throughout their long history. BMW makes up one of the German big three for auto manufacturers, along with Audi and Mercedes. They exemplify the three chief selling luxury vehicle manufacturers around the globe. Their veracity is a known standard for the brand and is shown throughout their products, as well, particularly their control arm parts and components. Fixing your BMW at home or on your own will help save you time and money, as well as taking out the hassle of bringing your vehicle to a garage every time you need something. Replacing your BMW’s ball joints is most likely something you will need to do once in the lifespan of your vehicle, but it is still a great idea to work with and get to know the different components, such as your control arm, of your BMW’s front end. The fist ting to do in this procedure is to secure your BMW using a floor jack. Make sure it is properly tightened down and safe to move on before doing it quickly to get to the next step. Make sure not to put the jack stands beneath the control arms like you commonly would. You will be taking them off during this procedure. As an alternative, put them under a secure point of your BMW frame close to the center of the front end. Now, take off the wheel, brake calipers, and other parts of your braking system to get to the ball joint. If you have questions about BMW’s control arm parts or components, the FCP Euro team and website have all of the information you could need.

After completing this step, you can now see the size of ball joint press you will require. If you do not have it, you will have to take off the control arm and the entire assembly to a mechanic to figure out the precise ball joint press needed. Find the nuts and bolts that you will have to take off before taking off the control arm assembly. There will probably be a retaining bolt on the top close to the splay bar link off. There will also be three bolts that you need to break free with a 1/2-inch ratchet and 17 mm socket. Undo the bolts until they are finger tight and finish taking them off with your fingers. This will help you to now lose them. Inspect for any more fasteners and take them off. Raise the control arm assembly out from beneath your BMW and you are now all set to get the ball joint pressed out. FCP Euro's academic and practiced call center team is on hand and able to answer any questions you have. If you are doubtful or need input about which control arm part or component is essential for your BMW, FCP has a hefty line up for the BMW brand. FAQs

What happens when a control arm goes bad? A failing control arm can cause continuous vibrations felt through the steering wheel, which fluctuate with changes in speed. Additionally, worn bushings often result in wheel shimmy, affecting driving stability and comfort.

How can I tell if a control arm needs to be replaced? Signs that a control arm needs replacement include squeaking, knocking, clunking, or snapping noises when going over bumps or during steering, accelerating, or decelerating. Steering issues such as wandering, pulling to one side, or an inability to track straight, along with uneven or accelerated tire wear, are also common indicators.

Can I drive with a bad control arm? Driving with bad control arm bushings can lead to further damage to the suspension and steering components, which can be costly to repair. It’s best to address the issue promptly to avoid additional damage and ensure the safety of you and your passengers.

Should I replace all control arms at once? Replacing control arms in pairs is recommended due to the integrated ball joints, which typically cannot be replaced separately. Properly functioning ball joints are critical to vehicle alignment, making it necessary to replace both control arms simultaneously to maintain vehicle stability and performance.
