The S5 is a high performance variant of the A5 from Audi, an executive line of automobiles owned and produced by German automaker Volkswagen. The S5 coupe was released to the public at the same time as the A5 coupe for 2007, and since then a convertible and fastback have been introduced as well. The A5 is the model name designation given to coupe, convertible (cabriolet), and five door fastback versions of the Audi A4s fourth generation models. All variants of the S5 (as well as all other “S” models) are high horsepower performance oriented vehicles and have distinct styling queues different from that of the A5 models. The S5 once (again like all ""S"" vehicles) are all wheel drive for maximized traction in all types of low-grip scenarios from sharp cornering to bad weather. In pre-2012 models the coupe produces 354 horsepower from its 4.2L direct fuel injected V8, and the coupe and convertible push out 330 horsepower from their supercharged 3.0L V6 engine. Cars after 2012 will receive new, more aggressive styling changes as well as updates to the engine to increase fuel economy.
